And I Can Cook, Too

May 1, 2007

Sorry no blogs this week. Four days of pouring rain has made it hard to get out of the house. So I've been in the pit. It's sunny today. I'll try to crawl out.

Any word from the Cooking in Schools Competition chickie? She sounded so promising!

Here's something that you will cheer you up: if you were here, you'd have to help me exile/kill Langdon, the mallard duck! He is being punished for being a cold blooded killer, along with his brother Algernon. Sadly, the exile location we have chosen is a thousand times nicer than our place so it is basically an exercise in futility. Algernon was exiled last Sunday to the Botanical Garden, and instead of the grim stench of justice being served, Red and I were wishing for our books and a picnic basket.

    Ineffectual justice system for ducks!

No word from chickie. Or the other chickie. Or the other places I've applied for jobs. "Would you like fried with that" is slowly becoming a reality.

Where is Langdon in exile? And whom did they kill?

It is very true that it is futile to try to punish a duck. Unless there are juniper berries and a hot oven involved.

Langdon and Algernon killed Moe. Witnessed by three horrified residents of Makani Kai. Summarily tried and sentenced by me. Defense counsel was Linus, who said nothing in their defense except "Hello Handsome!"

Algernon has been exiled to the botanical park up against the Koolaus. There are several hundred ducks and a big resevoir, so it is hardly Attica.

Hey, if you have to go the fast foor route, try for that place that serves hamburgers with beets on it. At least that won't be as boring.

Linus Paul always did strike me as a bird who had his priorities straight.

They ALL serve **beetroot** on their burgers. And a fried egg. Come to think of it I might not have the skills to cook a burger in this town.

PS: I am embarrassed by how long it took me to check www.BuckUpLittleCamper.com

Tomorrow I am going to McClaren Vale to go wine tasting, so things should get better. I going with a complete stranger, though, so there's no guarantee. I've never met the person, all I know is that I'm getting picked up in a red hatchback. So I'll either have a good time or end up chopped into un-identifiable pieces and buried in the desert.

As long as you didn't give him your blog password before being chopped to bits, it seems like you survived the trip. Nice wine?

    Kim.

I'm leaving in about twenty minutes - assuming I live, I'll let you know.

By the way, on my way back from the beach this morning I walked past a huge black bird (raven?) eating the entrails of a dead dove. Not the same scale, but reminded me of the lane nonetheless.
